Local Schools

Lawrence County is serious about the importance of education. There are two (2) school districts in our county. Each one has an Academic Foundation and sports booster club. These volunteer organizations are a big help in making our schools even better. More than 80% have pursued education beyond the high school level. The average pupil to teacher ratio is 15 to 1. The average A.C.T. score in our schools is 23.5. Illinois Eastern Community Colleges (IECC) is a multicampus college system in southeastern Illinois. Lawrence County is very fortunate that these four (4) community colleges are only 20 to 30 minutes away. These fine community colleges are available for the continuing, vocational and technical education needs and interests which your company may have. The State of Illinois has an educational guarantee, which ensures employers that community college graduates have the skills required. These IECC colleges provide more than 60 career education programs for students seeking a two-year Degree or a Certificate. IECC also offers short-time programs or courses that are tailored to the needs of business and industry. IECC is placing new emphasis on training for occupational programs through increased cooperation with local companies. Customized training is provided for companies, locally and throughout the state, with training programs conducted at the plant site or through seminars and classes at the college site. Long-term and short-term programs are offered in such areas as ISO 9000 standards, blueprint reading, hydraulics and elector-mechanics, metrology, hazardous material handling, and emergency preparedness. Students wishing to further their education even more may do so at any of eight (8) colleges and universities within a 60-minute drive of Lawrence County.
